News & Events

So much is happening in our small district! One of our goals is to help keep you informed of all the changes and positive activities taking place at Red Rock Elementary. We’ll be updating this page frequently with the latest news and events, always keeping you “in the know.”

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Our parent-teacher conference week will begin Monday, August 29. We have scheduled this time into our calendar for teachers to meet with you regarding the progress of your child in class. Within the next couple of weeks, please be on the lookout for more information from your child's teacher to schedule a time to meet.

Volleyball Season Begins

Good luck to our girls' volleyball team, as they begin their season this week! Their first game of the season is Thursday, August 18, at 4:30 p.m. against Academy of Math & Science played at Sporting Chance Center in Tucson. Good luck Raiders, have a great season!

Amazon Wish Lists
Colored crayons in a can

Our teachers have put together some wish lists on Amazon for their classrooms. Please do not feel obligated in any way, but if you are able, our teachers would appreciate any contributions to their classrooms. You can find the links to their wish lists on the right hand side of this page.

Standards-Based Grading

This year all grades at Red Rock Elementary will be utilizing standards-based grading (SBG) to assess our students on grade-level standards. We feel this will be a more accurate and fair way to assess our students as well as give you more information on how to not only best help your child be successful at home, but also enable us as teachers and a school to strengthen our partnership on helping your child with grade-level standards.

We truly believe this will be a more impactful way to show your child's progress. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions.

Parent Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures

Please view the full student arrival and dismissal procedures. A couple of items to note:

  • When picking up or dropping off your children, please pull forward all the way to the yellow cone, or as far up as you can if there are cars in front of you. We will not release students to vehicles until we can see name cards in the passenger side window.
  • Please do not drop off your child(ren) at the back of the school. This is the bus loading zone only.
  • Students that are walking/biking to and from school must stay on the sidewalk the whole time, and may not cross until the crossing guard is present, stops traffic, and indicates they are ready for students to cross. Crossing guards will be at the cross walks by 7:40 a.m., and will be present at 2:30 p.m. for dismissal.

Athletic Tryout Information

Tryouts for our first season sports begin Monday, August 1 right after school. Any 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in trying out for boys baseball and girls volleyball must have their physical and sports packet completed and turned into Mr. Thorne in order to tryout. Per Canyon Athletic Association, you must have a physical within the last year to be eligible to play sports. You may download the physical packet, pick it up in the front office, or students may grab one from Mrs. Rasmussen during PE. Additionally, there is a $60 charge for each sport team that your child plays on during the school year. Payment is only necessary if your child makes the team.

Please contact Mr. Thorne if you have any questions.

Picture Day

Mark your calendars! School pictures will be Tuesday, August 23! The week of August 15, students will be going home with their picture packets. Please be on the lookout!
